WACO, TX – May 25, 2025 – Waco ISD is proud to announce the appointment of Ms. Janice Whiting as the new principal of Dean Highland Elementary School. A passionate educator with over a decade of experience, Whiting brings a strong background in instructional leadership and student-centered learning.

Whiting previously served students and families in Waco ISD as a teacher at Dean Highland Elementary, Crestview Elementary, and Cesar Chavez Middle School. Her early work in the district included teaching 3rd and 5th grade as well as middle school art. Her familiarity with the Waco ISD community and her dedication to students and academic achievement have been consistent throughout her career.

Most recently, Whiting served as an assistant principal in Midway ISD, where she helped lead campus transformation efforts focused on building strong systems of support for both students and staff. She has also held leadership roles as an instructional coach, always with a focus on collaboration, culture, and continuous improvement.

“Ms. Whiting’s return to Waco ISD as the leader of Dean Highland Elementary is an exciting moment for our district,” said Dr. Tiffany Spicer, Waco ISD Superintendent. “She understands the power of building strong relationships with families and staff, and she has a clear vision for student success.”

With this leadership transition, Dean Highland Elementary is positioned to continue its upward momentum, with a renewed focus on student learning and community partnerships.
